SARANG
SALAMA
Sarang (사랑) means love in Korean and Salama (سلامة) means peace in Arabic and Swahili. Together, they represent the intentions of our wedding and our commitment that we made to each other in October 2021.
We met in 2012. We chose to love in 2014. Over the next 6 years, we became Dilbee. Shilbee proposed in January 2020. We started planning a community celebration for November 2020. Then, you know what happened. The next year involved several vision changes, logistics, and learnings. In June 2021, we landed on a plan, which was almost a 180-degree shift from our original vision, most notably around inclusion. On October 9, 2021, we became Dhalla-Kim with 40 friends and family present. This website was made in December 2021 as a gift but also became a much needed gratitude and expression exercise at an especially hard time.
It's unfinished and always will be.

OUR STORY
MEHNDI & MANDVO
CEREMONY
On October 2nd, we had our Mehndi and Mandvo ceremony at our parents' home for 25 members of our immediate families living in Tkaronto.

PAEBAEK
CEREMONY
On October 10th, we had our Paebaek Ceremony at Wasan Island in the presence of friends and family.
SISTERS'
CIRCLE
On the morning of October 9th, our sisters co-created a 2-hour mini-festival filled with play, movement, games, readings, and angel walks.
COMMITMENT
CEREMONY
On October 9th, we had our commitment ceremony - an ancestral traffic jam - while it gently rained on Wasan Island.
THE PARTY & AFTER PARTY
On the evening of October 9th, we ate, we played, we danced, we sauna-ed, and we cold-plunged into the lake.
WASAN ISLAND
Wasan Island is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinabe. This territory is covered by the Robinson Huron Treaty (1850) and the William Treaty (1923). There are several neighbouring First Nations communities whose ancestors live(d) in this area, including Rama (Mnjikaning), Wahta, and Wasauksing (Parry Island). There are three nations represented in the area: the Anishinabe (Ojibway), Pottawatomi and Mohawk.
